Kathyleen J. Werner 1924-2010
As published in The Miller Press July 28, 2010
Kathyleen Joy Werner, 86, of Redfield, S.D., died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at The Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

Her funeral will be Wednesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visit www.thelenfuneralhome.com.

Kathyleen Joy Belau was born April 4, 1924, on the family farm near Miranda, S.D. to William and Joyce (Seibert) Belau. She attended Gaffney and Sievers country schools and Rockham High School. She married Roy A. Werner of Rockham at the Miranda Methodist Church. They farmed near Rockham and had two sons, LeRoy and James. LeRoy died at the age of nine due to brain cancer.

Kathyleen was a member of the Wheaton Church for many years before she moved to Redfield and joined the First Congregational Church. Her faith was always an important part of her life and she recalled her mother reading from the Bible to the family every morning at breakfast.

She enjoyed collecting pretty stones and stamps, and gardening.

Kathyleen is survived by her son, James Werner of Rockham, and her granddaughter, Jamie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy in 1994; her son Leroy in 1970; her brothers, Wilfred, Gordon and Lawrence; and her sister, Marguerite Grottke.
